Coronafashion is here.
Now that the CDC has recommended that civilians use non-medical, cloth face masks in public places in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, fashion brands and DIY-ers have taken center stage to show you how you can get your very own Covid-19 approved face mask. Some brands / initiatives we love have even already sold out like, Reformation, HFS Collective but you can keep an eye out to see when they restock.
Although don’t currently have the resources to make our own masks for you all, we’ve rounded up a list of our favorite options that are available for purchase online right now. After all, face masks are the new symbol of solidarity.
PPE (personal protective equipment) is just one of the many voluntary public health measures that you can do to prevent the spread of coronavirus and to help flatten the curve – remember to keep up social distancing and hand washing because those are still #1 priority. The mask is really just a low-cost way to prevent spread in areas where social distancing of 6ft is hard to maintain. Remember, surgical masks and N-95 respirators are in short supply and are needed for use by our healthcare professionals.
If you’re wondering which mask to buy, many of the options out there are probably fine as long as they’re made according to CDC guidelines. We look for small businesses like us, an ethics or sustainability focus, and/or a community initiative through donation.
Who knew that one day bleach dyed sweat pant / sweatshirt sets and facemasks would be what’s in style? Well, we can definitely get behind comfy fashion that also keeps you healthy and safe.
Images are the property of For Days. For Days has allocated their factory hours to making cloth masks. They give customers the option to buy a pack of 10 for themselves or to send a pack of 10 to someone else, or to donate a pack of 10 to essential workers. They’re working with the city of L.A. to distribute donated masks to essential workers like healthcare workers, postal workers, grocery store clerks, etc. Every purchase goes toward sewing and distributing masks. Machine washable, double layer cotton masks that can be sanitized and reused. Each set costs $25.00.

Colorado company Winter Session is selling masks for pre-order right now (they’ll ship the week of 4/21). The masks come in a sage green and are available for purchase in sets of 1, 2, 4, 6, and 10. For every mask purchased, one mask will be donated to an essential worker or health care provider through the brand’s non-profit initiative, Cover Up Colorado. You can also request mask donations for your own organization if you’re located in Colorado. Masks are made from cotton. Features include a moldable wire piece for a snug fit around your nose (included) and a pocket for a removable filter (which will be available for purchase one 4/10 or can be made DIY). 1 Mask is $14.00. Price per mask is discounted with higher quantity.

Armed Angels, a Denmark company with a focus on eco-friendly and fair products, donates €2.00 to Doctors Without Borders for every organic cotton face mask purchased through their online store. Although located in Denmark, they are still shipping globally. We’re not sure how delivery times will be affected by the pandemic, but typically DHL International takes 1-3 weeks. Masks either have a phrase on them or are plain, and are available in 3 colors: tan, white, or black. Each mask is €9.00 but expect to pay much more with shipping costs included. The total was €41.17 to ship 1 mask to Florida, which is $44.48 USD. We suggest buying with friends and family, so you can go in on the shipping costs together, or buying for them so the cost feels worth it.

Dorian Who is an avant-garde streetwear brand from Canada with a focus on slow and seasonless goods made with deadstock materials. They are selling upcycled cotton face masks as single units and in a 4-pack. Orders are processed 12-14 days after purchase and are shipped globally from Canada. Again, I'm not sure if there's a shipping delay due to the pandemic, but shipping to the USA is typically 1-3 business days according to their website. 1 Mask is $25.00, 4-pack is $70.00.

The hospitals select what type of masks they need, and Mask Crafters provides the patterns and instructions for how to make them.
